Thistle Systems have demonstrated it is possible to create highly efficient storage systems within heavy engineering and manufacturing facilities which have overhead cranes, without the need for multiple handling using fork lifts, with their Heavy Duty Slide and Store System.
The system provides an innovative solution to the problem most companies face when they are storing heavy goods or large components, such as tooling and raw materials, which is how they can lift them onto and retrieve them from a racking or shelving system
By lifting these up and onto a racking system, the company can instantly benefit from freeing up additional floor space which can then be used more profitably for additional machinery or production space. Traditionally this has involved multiple handling, from crane to fork truck, and vice versa, with all the associated handling and damage risks.
The Heavy Duty Slide and Store system features heavy duty shelves or pallets that can comfortably store up to 700kg and can be pulled out of the racking to enable the stored goods to be accessed directly by an overhead crane. Lighter duty units are available for awkward shaped, lighter components at lower levels. In either case, the racking can be extended and used for conventional pallet or stillage storage above Slide and Store, making even better use of the space available.
Thistle Systems’ Managing Director, Mike Cairns, explained “Our Max the Cube philosophy is all about delivering innovative solutions which enable our clients to transform their working environment and achieve a tangible Return on Investment.”
He continued, “Our Heavy Duty Slide and Store system enables companies to release valuable production space and either expand without the need to buy new premises or indeed achieve the same level of production but within a smaller facility – both key challenges in today’s market.”
The Heavy Duty Slide and Store system also deliver tangible benefits over heavy duty pallet racking and fork lift trucks as it avoid the operational costs incurred through the double and even triple handling of the products required by going from rack to forklift to ground to overhead crane.
