Record Storage Goes Down the Toilet
As more and more companies look at squeezing every available square metre of floor space into workspace, Thistle systems has helped one organisation free up over 20 square metres by converting a gents toilet into a dedicated record storage room.
The client, which has asked to remain nameless to prevent being tagged with the toilet humour that could follow such an extreme measure, was looking at ways in which they could free up valuable office space being taken up with traditional filing cabinets.
Thistle proposed the extraordinary solution following the initial discussions about maximum storage potential, accessibility and potential rooms which could house the storage of an entire department as opposed to being located in various offices.
Once the area was identified, Thistle carried out its calculations to determine the optimal solution and proposed that a mobile shelving system was the best option as it offered twice the storage capacity of static shelving.
Thistle’s Storage Equipment Director, Alan Scott, explained, “As with every project, we analysed every potential permutation of shelving such as mobiles, slide-a-sides, rotary cabinets and static shelving and compare the effect that each solution would have on capacity, access and floor area requirements before making our recommendations.”
He continued, “It goes to show that mobile systems can prove to be the best solution in smaller areas and thankfully the client recognised the enormous benefits that this strategy would provide them with including ample storage with full accessibility together with additional space for desks and workspace.”
