Mezzanine Floor at Whitelee Wind Farm

Thistle Systems' combined expertise in mezzanine floors and interiors was demonstrated with the installation of this 40 square metre secondary storage mezzanine with access stair and additional building works for Scottish Power at their Whitelee Wind Farm, the biggest in central Europe.

Thistle's expertise and experience in designing and installing mezzanine floors was a key factor in winning the contract and their project team provided invaluable advice in the best approach to secure the building warrant.

The mezzanine floor was design to provide additional storage space for the engineering contractors responsible for the ongoing maintenance in the Wind Farm and was required to connect the upper level to an existing office area. This saw Thistle's interiors team knocking through a concrete wall, installing fire rated doors and carrying out some minor M&E works to make good to the affected environment. Thistle also designed the optimal shelving layout and supplied over 100 linear metres of longspan shelving to accommodate essential spare parts and tools.

And with Thistle's in depth knowledge of the specific nuances that have to been met to obtain building warrants in virtually every region of the UK, the mezzanine floor was completed in a very short lead time.

Thistle's experience in carrying out these types of projects with minimal disruption to the operations also enabled them to complete the entire installation without having to remove the existing shelving system or the stored products situated directly below the new mezzanine floor.
