Narrow Aisle Racking Installation at Harper Collins
Thistle Systems has helped Harper Collins, one of the world's leading publishers, by installing a narrow aisle storage solution with over 3500 pallet positions as part of the extension of its UK distribution centre to meet the demands of the company's growing online market.
The narrow aisle racking solutions was designed to work in conjunction with the existing system which is accessed via man-up fork lift trucks which can store and retrieve entire pallets or allow the operator to manually pick items from any level.
The narrow aisle system featured a guide rail system to the base of the racking to assist the entry of the fork lift trucks and prevent accidental damage as well as 8 metre high anti-collapse mesh panels to provide a safe working environment for its employees.
The project saw Thistle Systems installation team dismantle and remove an existing order picking system before installing the narrow aisle solution to the high specifications of the client. In addition, Thistle installed additional beam levels to existing racking system in a number of areas within the expansive distribution centre.
Thistle System's Project Manager, Jim Young, explained "This was a fairly complex project which required a thorough understanding of the existing facilities as well as the vision for the company so that we could develop the right system for their current and future needs."
He continued, "We have extensive experience of working on projects of this magnitude having recently completed a major pallet racking installation for Babcock Rail. Our client portfolio also boasts a variety of distribution companies in all industry sectors across the UK."
